Now that we’re familiar with the CIA’s Cold War espionage tactics, let’s take a look at what they thought the Soviets had to offer. The video below, “one of many such propaganda films created by the American Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) during the 1950’s & 1960’s, discusses what was believed to be typical Soviet spy school training,” for which the CIA supposedly built a “typical American town” located outside of Vinnytsia, Ukraine. The students of this spy school, hand picked from the best Soviet Universities, are immersed in American culture — they drive American cars using American traffic regulations, watch American movies (the only ones playing in Vinnytsia’s cinemas), and study U.S. history with American schoolbooks. They’re even taught how to buy like an American.
What better way to blend into American society?
