Mur Lafferty on writing Bookburners Ep 13: "Keeping Friends Close"

Thank you, Google Hangouts.

The best part about writing episode 13 was the feeling of pushing the boulder off the mountain so my fellow writers could guide its way down to its crushing climax.During the whole season, we were pretty much writing our own contained episodes, sticking to the ag

reed-upon plot arc, but definitely telling one whole adventure from start to finish. For the final four, that's not the case, as episode 14 will start right at where I left off at 13. Then 15 and 16, bam bam bam. We worked very close together on the last four to make sure they fit together into one huge climactic story (while still keeping true to the goal of smaller story arcs within our episodes, naturally.) There were a lot of conference calls. Thank you, Google Hangouts. This is one of the times that our team's chemistry made things great. If we were antagonistic or competitive toward each other, I think these conversations could have gone very badly and the project could have disintegrated around us. But we had built enough trust to put egos aside and get these episodes done, and they are some of the best in the series. I hope you enjoy them!
